Dash cam video released of woman charged with DUI during I-26 shut down

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Authorities have released new dash cam video of a woman who deputies say drove down the interstate last week while it was closed for Vice President Joe Biden's Motorcade.

Biden was traveling to attend an event honoring Mayor Joe Riley.

The incident happened Thursday night when the vice president was in town. I-26 was closed down for some time while his motorcade made its way downtown.

In the dashcam video you see a Charleston County Sheriff deputy flash blue lights at Catherine Burton's car, attempting to pull her over on I-26 which was supposed to be closed.

It appears Burton fails to stop, and continues down I-26 for several minutes before exiting at Cosgrove Avenue in North Charleston.

At this point, the car pulls over and pauses for a moment, before pulling back onto the road.

Eventually authorities cornered her in a dead end. In the video, Burton tries to make a U-turn, but she's blocked in.

Police say when they were finally able to do the routine traffic stop, Burton smelled of alcohol.

According to the police report, Burton told deputies she thought the blue lights following her for nearly 10 minutes were for another driver.

She's been charged with driving under the influence and failure to stop for blue lights.
