Gov. Haley: We must reverse cuts to nation's military forces

COLUMBIA, SC (AP) -

Gov. Nikki Haley has told a group of senior military officers cuts to the nation's military have gone too far and she wants to work to reverse them.

The Republican governor made the comments Wednesday during her annual meeting with the commanders of the state's military installations.

Haley told the group recent cuts to U.S. forces mean the nation's military isn't ready.

The group of 10 officers at the session represented Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard installations. They ranged from the three-star general in charge of U.S. Army Central, which supports U.S. forces in the Middle East, western Africa and southwest Asia, to the Navy captain who oversees the Naval Hospital in Beaufort.

Many officers told the governor they are worried about continued automatic budget cuts.
