CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Law Enforcement Network for Charleston and Berkeley Counties will have their annual Holiday Traffic Blitz press event at noon in Summerville.
Law enforcement will team up to let people know the dangers of drunk driving, while ensuring motorists that they are out in full force and have no tolerance for impaired driving.
Shelly Woodward, a spokeswoman for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) says the traffic blitz is important for people to know that law enforcement is working as a team and are on a mission. "I just want to make sure our roads are safe," Woodward said.
Woodward will speak at today's event, along with officers from Mt. Pleasant and Summerville police departments.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, nearly half of all fatal crashes in South Carolina involve an impaired driver.
Across the nation, DUI arrests are highest between Thanksgiving and the end of the New Year's weekend.
The kickoff will be on Boundary St. at Gahagan Softball fields. This is the field with the large wooden playset in the front right corner.
