CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Star Wars fans of all ages waited in lines at the Citadel Mall Stadium 16 Thursday night eager to see the newest installment of the sci-fi franchise.
Andrew Pham, whose wedding was Star Wars-themed, bought his tickets for "The Force Awakens" after the first trailer hit online and has high hopes for the movie.
"I hope it's very good," Pham said. "Everything I've seen in the trailer certainly looks like it's captured a lot of what was great about the old movies...hopefully it will bypass the cheesy CGI stuff from the prequels."
The prequels were a trio of Star Wars movies that first came out in 1999, then directed by creator George Lucas and much-maligned by fans and critics.
The original Star Wars movies first hit theaters in 1977 and were a global phenomenon, something that new Star Wars director J.J. Abrams hopes to achieve with this new installment.
The movie is certainly getting to those heights with rave reviews from critics as well as packed theaters opening night which includes the Citadel Mall Stadium 16.
Cadence and Willow Bermudas said they were excited for the new movie and couldn't wait to get inside for the show to start.
"I think it's going to be great, most all of the movies were," Cadence Bermudas said."I don't have high expectations. I think it's going to be really great."
Willow Bermudas chimed in and said,"It's going to be epic!"
"I'm excited to see who Kylo Ren is," said Logan Sease referring to a character in the new movie."I'm excited to see what they do with him."
