PORTLAND, OR (KATU/CNN) - After a mother's tragic death, a father found overwhelming support when he asked for help breastfeeding his baby boy.
The dad, Alex Green, posted this on Facebook: "Hello everyone. My sister just invited me to this page. I'm a new single father to Brody. He's 8 months old. His mother died 4 months ago."
He went on to write this: "His mother wanted to breastfeed him until he was a year old. Brody and I live in Bend but have not had any luck finding milk there."
Green posted on behalf of Brody, who lost his mom after her tragic and sudden death. Green didn't want to give up on her wishes to have her son breast fed.
His request for help has been met by hundreds of supporters who have donated or posted their comments of support.
"I can obviously do almost anything for him except breastfeed him," Green said of Brody. "I knew his mom wanted to breastfeed until he was a year old, and I was willing to do whatever it takes to do that for him. I'm no hero in this situation. I think people donating their time and breast milk are the ones who should be acknowledged. I'm just an average, ordinary guy trying to take care of his son."
Many women who live in Portland have offered to donate more than once now.
Brody's father thanked the generosity of so many mothers. He said he believes he will be able to feed his son breast milk until at least his first birthday.
