COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A 61-year-old man has been rescued after this week's heavy rains stranded him for days on an island in the Broad River.
The State newspaper reports (http://bit.ly/1QT2QD7 ) that friends of William Brock called Columbia police on Christmas Day to report him missing. He hadn't been seen since Monday.
Police Chief Skip Holbrook says Columbia Fire Department's search-and-rescue unit found Brock about 11 a.m. Saturday.
Police say the rising, swiftly moving waters cut off Brock's access to the shore, but officers had not yet determined exactly what happened or how Brock survived.
Holbrook says Brock was in good condition and spirts but was taken to a local hospital to be checked out. Brock has no permanent address.
