MCCLELLANVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Charleston County deputies say one person is in custody in connection with a criminal sexual assault at a McClellanville home.
Darrin Fell, 32, was arrested Wednesday morning and is charged with first degree criminal sexual conduct, according to Charleston County Sheriff's Maj. Eric Watson.
The call about what was initially reported as an an assault came in at 6:51 a.m., according to Charleston County dispatchers. Initial reports indicated the incident occurred at a nearby gas station on Highway 17.
Investigators say a man assaulted a woman who had been given a ride to a McClellanville home where she intended to meet up with a long-lost friend. The victim told deputies when she arrived at the home, Fell grabbed her and pulled her inside the home, then sexually assaulted her.
The man who had given the victim a ride to the home was waiting outside in his vehicle when she emerged from the home and he told investigators Fell fired at him from the doorway of the residence, the report states. The man then returned fire towards Fell, emptying his magazine, the report states.
Fell initially refused to obey a deputy's order to come out of the home, but a relative was able to speak with him by phone and encourage him to come outside, the report states.
It is not clear from the incident report where the long-lost friend the victim intended to meet was during the incident or if he was anywhere near the scene at all.
The man who returned fire was not arrested, according to the report.
Fell was being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center pending a bond hearing scheduled for Thursday morning.
