FOLLY BEACH, SC (WCSC) - While many of your were getting ready to watch the ball drop in Times Square on your TV, others were at Folly Beach for the Flip Flop Drop.
It's a five year tradition that keeps on going. Hundreds of people gathered to watch the 8-feet tall, shimmering flip flops drop from the sky as a celebration into the new year.
"If you miss this event, you miss the event of the year," says the Flip Flop Drop DJ, Furman Dominic. "It's such a big huge party, it's a little New York City."
Many couldn't wait to get in the beach water as well.
"It's cold, too cold, it's freezing," said some locals who took a swim.
Although the water was cold, the warm winter here brought many travelers to the coast for the event.
"We've never seen it, we're really interested, we can't wait," says a traveler.
