James Island launches new waste collection program

VIDEO: James Island launches new waste collection program

JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - The James Island Public Service District has launched a brand new waste collection program.

Officials say James Island residents will now be able to dispose of garbage, yard debris and bulky items all on one day. The service district is trying something new with the One For all Rolling Forward Program.

Big items like furniture, mattresses and appliances will be picked up with household trash as well.

Rolling carts have already been delivered to each home for no charge. The carts are 100% recyclable. The new One for All Rolling Forward Program was created to improve the environment, reduce traffic delays and minimize future tax increases.

If you're disposing of yard debris that include things like small trimmings of shrubs, grass clippings, and pine straw they must be placed in recyclable bags. Loose leaves and grass placed at the the curb will not be collected.

Yard debris should be separated from other trash and major limbs should be cut less than six feet in length.

Trash pickup will take place one day a week. If you're a resident make sure all your items for disposal are at the curb by 6 a.m. on your collection day.

Charleston County will recycle leaves, grass, tree limbs and shrub trimmings into mulch and compost that is sold back to the public.

If you have any questions about pickup you can contact the One for All Rolling Forward Hotline at 843-762-5260 or email the district at onedayaweekgarbage@jipsd.org.
