A Greenwood County Council member will have a front row seat for President Barack Obama's final State of the Union Address.

Edith Childs was at a June 2007 campaign stop for Obama in Greenwood that may have been small in size, but not in spirit.

Childs noticed Obama's surprise at the small gathering and began to hype up the crowd, calling out, "Fired up!" to which they responded "Fired up!". She then countered with "Ready to go!".

This call and response grabbed the attention of larger crowds, and was widely recognized as the unofficial slogan of the 2008 and 2012 campaigns.

Childs first visited the White House in December 2009, when President Obama invited her to the first holiday celebration hosted by the Obama's.

She lives in Greenwood with her husband Charles. They have three children and six grandchildren.
