CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

The 6th Annual Charleston Marathon will take runners through downtown Charleston and into North Charleston beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday.

Thousands of runners will hit the streets to run 26.2 miles.

The event also includes a half marathon and 5K.

Several streets will be closed to traffic along the peninsula and into North Charleston.

The marathon begins at Burke High School on President Street and ends at North Charleston High School on East Montague Avenue.

The marathon and half marathon will take runners through the Battery and along historic King Street, while the 5K run goes through Park Circle.

Awards will be handed out at a finish line celebration at North Charleston High School at 9:30 a.m.

Shuttles will return runners to the starting point between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Proceeds benefit fine arts programs at Charleston County Schools.

Though online registration has closed, you can still register Saturday morning before the race at Burke High School, organizers say.

The marathon is on rain or shine.
