Overnight accident in Orangeburg County leaves one dead, seven in hospital

The accident occurred 1.1 miles south of the town of Springfield. The accident occurred 1.1 miles south of the town of Springfield.
ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

Seven people are in the hospital and one child is dead after an overnight accident in Orangeburg County. 

Officials with the Highway Patrol say at approximately 3:15 a.m. a Nissan sedan driven was traveling north on Capital Way when it drifted over the center line of the highway and struck a Kia sedan head on.

Tiffany Brown, driver of the Nissan, was taken to The Regional Medical Center of Orangeburg & Calhoun Counties.

There were two children in the vehicle with Brown. One was taken to the hospital, the other was pronounced deceased.

It is unknown whether the children were properly restrained.

The Kia was driven by Princess Tooks, 30, who was taken to Palmetto Richland.

There were four passengers in the Kia, all of which were taken to Palmetto Richland as well.

The accident is currently under investigation by the S.C. Highway Patrol.
