COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

Authorities have identified a 76-year-old man who died in a house fire in Colleton County.

The Colleton County Coroner's Office says Robert Lee Daniels died in Tuesday night's fire.

According to Colleton County Fire and Rescue, the structure fire happened at a home on the 70 block of Shelby Lane, near the town of Smoaks, at 5:08 p.m.

A caller told dispatchers there was a man inside the home and her husband tried to get him out, but the smoke drove him out of the building.

Firefighters arrived seven minutes later to find a deceased adult male in the home.

Officials say most of the fire damage was isolated to the bedroom were the man was found.

The Colleton County Sheriff's Office and SLED responded to the scene.
