Suspect arrested in Cross bar fight, shooting

CROSS, SC (WCSC) - The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office has arrested a suspect in connection with an overnight shooting in Cross.

William Kenneth Melton, age 48, of Cross for Aggravated Assault after a bar fight at the Sportsman Bar and Grill on Old Highway 6 in Cross.

Deputies responded to a report of a possible shooting outside of the Sportsman Bar and Grill last night.

Upon arriving, the investigation revealed that Melton had been playing pool with the victim when a verbal altercation began.

The argument then became physical which led to Melton shooting the victim in the head with a revolver.

The victim, an unidentified 30 year-old white male was injured but is expected to make a full recovery.

Responding deputies located Melton in his truck a few miles from the incident location.

Melton, has been charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Melton is currently being held at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center.
