Man charged in fatal North Charleston shooting

NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) - A 17-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder following a shooting at a North Charleston home over the weekend.

North Charleston Police say Bryant Bennett turned himself in to police shortly before midnight Sunday.

Officers responded to the 2700 block of Ranger Drive in reference to a man being shot shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday.

Officers found 19-year-old Lamonte Simmons suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to MUSC, where he later died.

Authorities say Simmons knew his suspected killer.

According to witnesses, Bennett and Simmons were arguing in the front yard of the home. That's when Bennet then pulled out a handgun, shot Simmons and fled the scene.

Bennett is expected to have a bond hearing this afternoon.

He's being charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
