Investigators arrest second teen in fatal North Charleston shooting

NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) - Investigators have arrested another teenager in connection to a fatal shooting in North Charleston over the weekend.

The North Charleston Police Department charged 18-year-old Jayvon Edard Deas with murder in connection to the fatal shooting of Lamonte Deshaun Simmons.

Deas is expected in bond court Tuesday morning. Deas surrendered to officers at police headquarters on Monday afternoon.

Police have already arrested 17-year-old Bryant Bennett who also surrendered to authorities shortly before midnight on Sunday.

Officers responded to the 2700 block of Ranger Drive in reference to a man being shot shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday.

Officers found 19-year-old Simmons suffering from gunshot wounds.

He was transported to MUSC, where he later died.

Authorities say Simmons knew his suspected killer.

According to witnesses, Bennett and Simmons were arguing in the front yard of the home.

That's when Bennett pulled out a handgun, shot Simmons and fled the scene, police say.

Bennett is charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
