Public invited to review teaching materials for Charleston County schools

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Parents, teachers and concerned community members can weigh in on textbooks and other teaching materials to be used in Charleston County schools.

The Charleston County School District is extending the review period for instructional materials until February 8, 2016. The South Carolina Department of Education already finalized the list of instructional materials available to schools across the state. The district wants to make sure everyone has an opportunity to view and submit comments on the teaching materials that will be used in local schools. The CCSD Board of Trustees will consider the comments when determining instruction materials for students in the district.

Public review of materials will be available for the following curriculum areas:

Social Studies

  • style="margin-left: 40px;">K-5 Social Studies
  • style="margin-left: 40px;">US Government
  • style="margin-left: 40px;">Citizenship – Civics
  • style="margin-left: 40px;">Western Civilization
  • style="margin-left: 40px;">Human Geography, AP*


  • style="margin-left: 40px;">K-5 Science Textbooks
  • style="margin-left: 40px;">Various K-8 Science Kits
  • style="margin-left: 40px;">Biology 1, 2, AP, IB* Western Civilization

Career and Technology Courses

  • style="margin-left: 40px;">Computer Applications
  • style="margin-left: 40px;">Integrated Business Applications 1, 2
  • style="margin-left: 40px;">Family and Consumer Science

The materials will be available for review on Tuesday, February 2 and Thursday, February 4, 2016 from 3 p.m.-7 p.m. at the St. Andrews Professional Learning Center.
