Investigators search for suspect in Summerville Speedway armed robbery

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) -

Investigators are on the lookout for a suspect who robbed a gas station in Summerville Wednesday night. 

The Summerville Police Department said officers responded to the Speedway on 4306 Ladson Rd. at 10:43 p.m. 

The victim said the incident started when the suspect came into the store and asked for a pack of Newport cigarettes. 

When the victim placed the cigarettes on the counter, the suspect took out a black handgun and pointed it at the clerk. 

A police report states the suspect then told the victim to empty the register. The victim then handed the victim cash. 

The suspect took off and ran between the dumpster and a storage building. Officers reported that there was a section of fence missing on the side of the business that allowed access to the nearby Planter's Retreat Apartment complex. 

According to investigators, surveillance video showed that the suspect used his sweatshirt over his hands to open the business door, and never touched the door with his hands. 

The victim described the suspect as a black male, 6-foot tall, 150 pounds and wearing a black hoodie, a black facemask that covered his face up to his nose, grey pants and a black shoes.
