Winter weather forced the cancellation of about 50 blood drives in the Carolinas over the past week, which is straining blood supply, according to the American Red Cross.
The non-profit is in "urgent" need of blood and platelet donors, especially those with O, AB, B negative and A negative blood.
More than a dozen blood drives are scheduled throughout the tri-country over the next several weeks. Donors are also accepted at donation centers in Mt. Pleasant and West Ashley during regular hours.
Potential donors can also make an appointment through redcrossblood.org or 1-800-RED-CROSS.
