CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A date for jury selection in the trial of a friend of accused Charleston church shooter Dylann Roof has now been set.
A court order issued Thursday sets a date of March 1 for jurors to be selected in the trial of Joey Meek.
Meek is charged with misprision of a felony and making a false statement. Investigators say he withheld information about Roof's alleged plan to attack parishioners at Mother Emanuel AME Church in June.
The trial will be held in Charleston so victims' families can attend rather than in Columbia near where Meek lives. The jury pool will be drawn from the entire state.
Roof, who is accused of killing nine parishioners inside the church on June 17 including State Sen. and The Rev. Clementa Pinckney, the church's pastor, will go on trial in July on state charges. Roof faces 13 state charges and an additional 33 federal hate crime and weapons charges.
