ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say an inmate broke into a school, and stole a gun and cash hours after his escape from a minimum security prison facility in Rock Hill.

South Carolina Department of Corrections spokeswoman Stephanie Givens says the agency is still searching for 26-year-old Zachery Lee Reaves, who walked away from the Catawba Pre-Release Center on Monday night.

Deputies tell local media outlets the front door of Academy Christian School was found shattered Tuesday, and rocks and a trail of blood were found inside.

School employees reported a .380 handgun and several kinds of ammunition stolen from a desk drawer in the school. Thirty-five dollars in cash was also taken.

Reaves was serving an eight-year sentence for second-degree burglary. School officials didn't comment on why the gun was in the building.
