NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - North Charleston Police say a man is in custody after sustaining a gunshot wound while looking to conduct a drug transaction.
Officers arrived to a Family Dollar on Dorchester Road shortly before 10 p.m. to find Taevon McCollough grazed by a bullet on the head.
McCollough told officers he was looking to conduct a drug transaction on the 7700 block of Warsaw Road when he was approached by three men who attempted to rob him.
The victim said the suspects started to shoot at him and he shot back with a .380-caliber handgun as he ran away.
The victim was treated on scene by EMS.
A report by police states the handgun was located on the ground nearby, as well as a backpack containing narcotics and a hat with a small hole in the back.
Witnesses say they heard multiple gunshots. Some said they saw the suspects run to homes and cars on Oldridge Road.
One witness said they also saw an unknown female drive away from the scene.
McCollough has been charged with possession of schedule IV narcotics and the unlawful possession of a firearm.
NCPD authorities are continuing the investigation.
