Mt. Pleasant man sets up water donation drive to help crisis in Flint, Mich.

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - As the public health catastrophe in Flint, Mich. continues, one Mt. Pleasant local is making it his mission to help.

John Wright has set up a water donation drive in the Old Village.

He's collecting bottled water to take to residents in Flint who are using it for drinking and bathing.

"I think about living here in the Lowcountry and realizing that there are lots of things we take for gr anted," Wright said in a press release.  "Water is one of those things.  Who would ever think we could not have clean and safe water anywhere in America?  The families in Flint, M.I. can certainly share what it is like to not have one of the most important resources for healthy living."

Wright plans to collect donations now thru Thursday and then transport the bottled water himself, driving a U-Haul from the Lowcountry to Michigan.

He says it's a small way to help those dealing with a big crisis.

"The nation stood with us after the Emmanuel 9 tragedy, and most recently, last Oct. with the major flooding issues throughout our state," Wright said.  "The time has come for the Lowcountry residents to return the love and support by assisting those in crisis in Flint, Michigan."

The d rop site is set up in the parking lot of Hall and Johnson Funeral Home at 440 Venning St. in Mt. Pleasant.

Bottled water donations may be d ropped off now through Thursday, Feb. 4 from noon until 8 p.m. each day.  Wright can be reached at
