HANAHAN, SC (WCSC) - Berkeley County School District officials unveiled plans Tuesday for a new elementary school.
Tanner/Foster Creek Area Elementary School will be constructed on William Lane, completing a plan that has been in the works for years.
Sources say political conflicts and holdups that have kept the school's plans from moving forward have been cleared up and construction is expected to begin soon.
The district's website states the new facility will be home to grades pre-K through fifth grade. The 99,263 square-foot school will accommodate 780 students with room to expand up to 900 students.
BCSD officials say the construction budget is an estimated $22.3 million and they expect the school to open in time for the 2018-19 school year.
