NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Within less than 30 minutes of announcing a public safety checkpoint planned for Wednesday, North Charleston police officials said the checkpoint had been canceled.
Officers with the North Charleston Police Department had scheduled a public safety checkpoint in the Ferndale Community between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Police spokesman Spencer Pryor notified media outlets shortly after the advisory had been sent out that the checkpoint had been called off.
Police planned to make sure each motorists had valid a driver's license, vehicle registration and proof of insurance and that they were using seat belts.
There was no word on the reason for the cancellation or when such a checkpoint might be rescheduled.
