GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) - Goose Creek police are investigating an attempted carjacking outside a bank Tuesday afternoon.

Officers responded to the St. James Avenue Bank of America at approximately 3:01 p.m., according to Asst. Chief of Police Maj. John Grainger.

The victim told police he was in the passenger seat of his vehicle while his wife was inside carrying out a banking transaction. The man said an unknown man came out of the bank and attempted to get into the driver's side door.

Grainger said the passenger fought off the would-be carjacker who then went around to the passenger side of the vehicle and struck the victim through the open car window.

Police say the assailant left the area in a gray Mercedes with a red sticker in the rear window.

The victim declined medical treatment, Grainger said.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact Goose Creek Police at (843) 863-5200 or Crime Stoppers at (843) 554-1111.
