DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Dorchester County coroner Chris Nisbet resigned from office on Tuesday, according to the county's human resources director.
Gov. Nikki Haley suspended Nisbet from office on Oct. 1 following his indictment on a charge of misconduct in office.
On Sept. 11, a judge set a $5,000 personal recognizance bond for Nisbet, who had turned himself in to authorities on the misconduct charge.
Nisbet faced that charge in connection with an incident authorities described as a "civil disturbance" during which he allegedly pulled a gun on his neighbor.
The Summerville Police Department responded to a call in the area of Doty Park at 12:42 a.m. on Aug. 25 and found Nisbet on a street arguing with a second man. Nisbet had drawn a gun but it was pointed at the ground, according to an incident report.
Under state law a coroner is not allowed to act as a deputy, so Summerville has asked for a SLED investigation. That evening, Nisbet said he welcomed the SLED investigation.
