Two strong armed robbery incidents approximately 45 minutes apart on Huger Street Sunday night sent two victims to the hospital.

The first occurred at approximately 10:15 p.m. when a man was walking through the area known as "Tent City," according to Charleston Police spokesman Charles Francis. The victim was approached from behind by a man who assaulted him and took his cell phone and wallet, Francis said.

Police say the second victim was riding his bicycle at about 11 p.m. on Huger Street in the same area when a man called him over, then assaulted the victim and took his cell phone and wallet.

Both victims were transported to MUSC where they were treated and released, Francis said.

Police have increased their presence in the area. Francis said the robberies appear similar in nature and the detectives are trying to determine if they are related.

In the meantime, anyone with information on these incidents is asked to call Charleston County Consolidated Dispatch at (843) 743-7200 or Crime Stoppers at (843) 554-1111.
