NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - North Charleston police officers say they were called to the Chuck E. Cheese's on Rivers Avenue Sunday in reference to an assault that occurred after a phone was stolen.
According to an incident report, officers initiated a traffic stop on a woman they believe was fleeing the scene of the children's entertainment center and restaurant after the fight. Another woman, who was also said to be involved in the incident, was suffering a bloody nose at the time, officers say.
Wanda Jackson was arrested on charges of third degree assault and battery and petty larceny.
Upon further investigation, officers found that the suspect saw a phone on top of one of the machines and grabbed it with intent to take it after asking a boy if the phone was his. The incident is said to have happened at 2:59 p.m.
According to the report, the true owner of the phone confronted her and said it was her phone and that she wouldn't allow the suspect to steal it. That's when the two started arguing, the report states.
The suspect told officers the victim spit in her face, so she punched her with a closed fist. Officers say they didn't see the victim spit on the suspect in the surveillance video, and no one in the immediate area reported seeing that either.
Two juveniles with the suspect were released to their uncle, according to the report.
Officers say the stolen phone was returned to the victim.
