A Ladson woman was arrested Thursday in connection with $11,000 missing from the state Department of Motor Vehicles.
Rebecca Wilkerson Johnson, 53, is charged with embezzlement of public funds, valued at $10,000 or more, according to State Law Enforcement Division spokesman Thom Berry.
The SCDMV contacted SLED to investigate the missing money.
The charge is a felony and carries a penalty of a fine in proportion to the amount of funds embezzled and up to 10 years in prison, Berry said.
The case will be prosecuted by the Ninth Circuit Solicitor's Office, he said.
