CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Dozens of South Carolina's top bus drivers and maintenance teams, including CARTA representatives, competed today in the S.C. Alliance for Mobile Infrastructure's annual state bus "roadeo."
The yearly competition, which tests transit skills under the engine and behind the wheel, is part of the alliance's yearly statewide conference.
"These are the people on the front line of transit doing the hard jobs," said alliance vice president Keith Scott. "The folks competing today are the best in our state and this is a chance to celebrate their work."
Roadeo winners will qualify for a national competiton later this year. Results will be announced during an awards ceremony tonight.
"Public transit is playing an increasingly important role in our state, and the conference is a great way to stay up to date on emerging trends, strategy and technology," Scott said.
This is the first time Charleston has hosted the alliance conference and roadeo.
