BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

The family of the Berkeley County Deputy shot in the line of duty is thanking the community for its love and support.

Cpl. Kimber Gist was shot multiple times early Friday morning while investigating a suspicious vehicle in Goose Creek.

Gist's family released a statement Monday on Facebook.

The post on Facebook includes photos of flowers, balloons and drawings Gist has received in her hospital room as she recovers from her injuries.

The family's statement read, in part, "Although the last couple of days have been trying to see a loved one in pain due to a senseless crime, we have been incredibly blessed with the outpouring of love and support for the entire family."

Officials say Gist remains in stable condition at the hospital.

Meanwhile, friends of Gist painted a boat in her honor, using the hashtags #KimberStrong and #BerkeleyStrong.

The suspect gunman shot and killed himself following a standoff with North Charleston Police Friday morning.
