. - The Town of Mount Pleasant will celebrate the completion of a recently opened I-526 on-ramp Tuesday morning.
A right turn lane on Long Point Road is available for access to westbound traffic, as of late Jan. 2016.
City leaders and architects will celebrate the development with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. near the Long Point Road at I-526 intersection.
The new on-ramp had little fight, when it came down to getting the green light. The creation of the Long Point Road on-ramp was one of the town's top priorities for it's annual allocation of Charleston County tax funds in 2015, according to a statement from Martine Wolf-Miller, the town spokeswoman.
Architects and city planners say a main goal of this on-ramp is reducing backups onto Belle Hall Parkway. They also put this project in the works to improve the flow of traffic by residents heading westbound, Wolf-Miller said.
The highly anticipated project is part of the town's capitol improvement plan. Other capital projects currently underway include Shem Creek Park phase two, the new town hall, storm water improvements and the master plan for reception property on Rifle Range Road.
