BEAUFORT, SC (WCSC) -

People are paying their final respects to the late author Pat Conroy.

His visitation started in Beaufort at the Anderson Funeral home, and about 2,000 people are expected.

Visitors have come from several places including Columbia, Charleston and Savannah.

They say they want to honor the life of their favorite author.

Some are even coming with their favorite Pat Conroy novel in their hand.

Conroy died Friday just weeks after he announced he was battling pancreatic cancer.

The funeral home is supposed to hold about 200 people, but 2,000 people are expected. Officials are asking everyone to be very swift as they pay their respects.

Officials at the funeral home say the family hopes everyone who comes inside will be respectful.

The visitation is expected to last until 7 p.m., but it's expected to last later than that because of the crowd.

There will be a private funeral for Conroy on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
