Crews extinguish N. Charleston apartment fire; all residents accounted for

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Emergency crews have extinguished an apartment fire in North Charleston Tuesday afternoon.

NCFD crews responded at 3:32 p.m. to the fire at the Otranto Club Villas on 2150 Spoleto Ln.

Firefighters reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the two-story apartment building.

According to officials, all residents for the 16 unit apartment have been accounted for, and the Red Cross is assisting up to 25 residents.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.

"One firefighter is being treated for a hand injury and there were no other injuries reported," NCFD officials said.

Officials with the Red Cross say volunteers are working with emergency crews to help residents affected by the fire by providing immediate needs that include food, clothing and shelter.

Nearby businesses reported seeing smoke coming from the building around 3:15 p.m.
