CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston County School District leaders held a workshop Monday afternoon to discuss the future of one of the district's older schools.

The workshop happened just a few weeks after the school board voted to hold off on a decision on whether to renovate or rebuild Stono Park Elementary School.

Board members are weighing detailed information including school capacity, student performance and the costs of building a new school versus renovating the current building, which is more than 60 years old.

Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg has asked for a new school to be built and some parents have said students are overdue for a new school.

Outside the workshop, students handed out fliers urging board members to build a new school rather than leaving Stono Park Elementary "at the altar."

A final decision on the matter is expected at next Monday's school board meeting.
