Police: No shots fired at Northwoods Mall, witnesses claimed to see gun during fight

North Charleston Police say no shots were fired in an apparent altercation at Northwoods Mall Saturday night.

Dispatchers confirmed a report of shots fired came in at 8:51 p.m. Saturday, approximately 26 hours after a shooting in the parking lot of a restaurant in the vicinity left a 15-year-old dead.

An altercation reportedly took place between a group of people and bystanders began running from the area stating they saw someone with a gun, North Charleston Police spokesman Spencer Pryor said.

In his incident report, a responding officer said multiple people approached and said a man in the mall was telling people he was going to start shooting and killing people. When more officers arrived, mall employees told them a major fight with possible shots fired had occurred.

"I was advised that two males started a fight in the mall earlier and told everyone around they were going to get a gun," the officer said. "Witness stated that the two males came back inside the mall and was talking loudly about shooting people. This caused people to start to flee..."

The mall was cleared but no suspect was located, he said.

The mall closed at its normal closing time.
