CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston City Council was expected to consider a zoning change for the Sergeant Jasper site during Tuesday night's meeting.
But a decision was deferred.
The Beach company says it's happy with the city's decision after the company met last week on the "Plan B" development for the site.
That plan includes knocking down the current building, adding 350 apartments, office and retail space.
The Beach Company has been trying to redevelop the site since 2014.
They released the following statement on Tuesday:
The Beach Company is pleased with the City's decision to defer the first reading of an ordinance for a new zoning overlay for the Sergeant Jasper site at tonight's City Council meeting. "After talking it over earlier today, all parties involved agree it was the best thing to do. It is important to get this right," said John Darby, President and CEO of The Beach Company. "The Beach Company looks forward to continued collaboration with the City on the future plans for Sergeant Jasper."
