CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Investigators say they have arrested a 16-year-old teenager who used a rifle in an attempted armed robbery in downtown Charleston.
Charleston police charged Jaron Major of King Street with attempted armed robbery and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
Major was being held in the Juvenile Detention Center.
CPD officials say the incident happened on March 26 at 7 p.m. when an employee for Peking Gourmet was delivering food to an apartment on King Street.
"He was on the staircase when he was confronted by a male armed with a rifle who demanded his valuables," CPD officials said.
According to police, the victim grabbed the barrel of the rifle and pointed it towards the ceiling.
Authorities say a struggle ensued and the victim was thrown out of a door leading to the outside of the building.
A report states the victim then ran to his vehicle and dialed 911.
