NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) -

Hundreds of jobs are coming to the Lowcountry, thanks to Comcast.

The company announced Tuesday that it is establishing a new customer service and technical support Center of Excellence in North Charleston.

The 80,000 square foot facility will open for business in the second half of this year, and will house more than 550 new employees.

The $21.4 million facility will be built just off Interstate 26 in the Ingleside Plantation development located at 3450 Ingleside Boulevard near U.S. Route 78.
The employees at the Center of Excellence will specialize in providing support for Comcast customers who have the X1 entertainment operating system, high-speed Internet and digital telephone services.

Governor Nikki Haley proudly touted, “South Carolina is quickly becoming known as one of the best places in the world to do business for companies in every industry.

Comcast’s decision to build a new facility here and to create more than 550 new jobs in Charleston is another huge win for our customer service industry and proves what so many already know - that South Carolinians are up to the task of doing any job they are asked to do.”

With Tuesday’s announcement, Comcast will eventually employ more than 800 local employees. In addition to the new center, Comcast also operates a 5,000 square-foot Xfinity Customer Center in North Charleston that opened in January 2015.

“By bringing more than 550 new jobs to North Charleston, Comcast continues to support the region’s robust economic development while making great strides to improve the customer experience. Tuesday’s announcement marks an exciting new chapter in our positive and long-standing partnership with the Charleston community,” said Comcast Regional SVP Doug Guthrie.

Comcast has made hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of investments in its technology, its employee base, and in bridging the digital divide in greater Charleston.

Hiring for the new jobs is expected to begin in the second half of 2016. Those looking to join the Comcast team should visit the company’s careers web page here
