BEAUFORT COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A Beaufort County substitute teacher was arrested after authorities say she offered alcohol to students at a high school prom.
The Bluffton Police Department charged 50-year-old Tracy Butts with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Butts surrendered to police on Monday.
According to police, the incident started when a resource officer at the Bluffton High School prom on Hilton Head Island was told Butts offered two students alcohol.
"Those students refused to take the alcohol," BPD officials said."When confronted, Butts denied the allegation, but she did admit to having alcohol in her purse and drinking while she was there."
On Monday the resource officer reported receiving written statements from the students who Butts offered alcohol to and from a student who heard the offer.
Police say as a result of the statements, an arrest warrant was issued for Butts.
"This matter was handled quickly and efficiently due to the strong working relationship between the Bluffton Police Department and Beaufort County School District," said Bluffton Police Chief Joey Reynolds.
