WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - The new West Ashley Circle is giving drivers an easier way to get around the Bees Ferry area now that it's open.
The project was put together by the City of Charleston, but managed by the County.
It was built to create different routes for travelers and create ways to connect different neighborhoods, like Grand Oaks Plantation, to the circle.
2014 data from the Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments shows more than 27,000 cars traveling the area each day.
The circle was also built to deal with future growth based on the proposed Glenn McConnell Parkway Extension.
This project would extend Glenn McConnell all the way to Summerville and beyond, running parallel to I-26.
