Local church needs help finding stolen trailer

VIDEO: Church searching for stolen trailer needed for weekend mission trip

NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) - A local church is asking for the public's help to locate a stolen trailer church members say is a key tool in their youth ministry program.

A white trailer was stolen from Aldersgate United Methodist Church Sunday morning.

Police responded Sunday morning at approximately 8:17 a.m. and spoke to a caretaker for the church, who said she heard a loud "banging" sound from the parking lot of the church at approximately 7:45 a.m., looked out the window and saw a white van driving away with the trailer, according to an incident report.

The van was seen turning right out of the church parking lot onto Remount Road, police say.

The trailer is used by the youth ministry to help those less fortunate through the Salkehatchie Summer Service Program. That program encourages kids 14 and older to dedicate a week to helping others by improving their living conditions.

All the tools inside the trailer are needed for the next mission trip which is scheduled for this coming weekend.

Anyone with information is asked to call North Charleston Police at (843) 740-2800 or Crime Stoppers at (843) 554-1111.
