HANAHAN, SC (WCSC) -

Authorities say a woman shot two armed suspects who were struggling with her husband at an apartment in Hanahan this past weekend.

The Hanahan Police Department arrested 31-year-old Deon Jermaine Hampton of Walterboro and 28-year-old Arthur Lee Green of North Charleston.

The incident happened at the Colony Square Apartments on 1100 River Road on Sunday.

A man told investigators that it all started when Hampton and Green asked him for a cigarette.

When the man turned around, the man said one of the suspects pushed a gun into his back and forced him into an apartment.

Once inside the apartment, police say a struggle ensued, and during the struggle, the suspects' gun was fired.

According to police, the man's wife returned fire, striking both of the suspects, and was also shot by one of them. A report states that the man's wife suffered a gunshot wound to his chest.

"One of the subjects was located at another apartment complex on Murray Drive and this individual had sustained a gunshot wound," HPD officials said."He was transported by EMS to an area hospital."

Investigators say a short time later, the North Charleston Police Department found another person with a gunshot wound at the Sunoco on Rivers Avenue and Remount Road.

"Our officers went to that location and determined this subject was involved in the shooting incident at the apartment complex," HPD officials said."This subject was taken to a local hospital for treatment."

A report states during the investigation, one resident of the apartment where the shooting took place was arrested and charged with unlawful conduct towards a child, simple possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and a weapons law violation.

"The Hanahan Police Department considers this to be an isolated and targeted incident, and we consider this area of Hanahan to be safe part of town," HPD officials said."As a reminder, please call the police department anytime you see any activity that appears to be suspicious in nature."
