SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) -

Investigators with the Summerville Police Department are continuing to search for a 23-year-old man they say crashed into two cars during a police chase before wrecking in a wooded area and fleeing the scene on foot.

Officers are searching for Molefi Johnson who they consider armed and dangerous.

Last week, officers say they responded to the Hamilton Motel on South Main Street around 8:30 p.m. in reference to a man possibly being armed.

When officers tried to make contact with a vehicle matching a description they were given, the vehicle struck one of the patrol vehicles and left the scene.

Officials say the driver, identified as Johnson, then struck another car near the intersection of East Richardson Avenue and Challedon Drive. The suspect then wrecked a wooded area nearby.

According to the news release, he fled the scene on foot, leaving a child and two adults in the vehicle. They later fled the scene as well.

The occupants of the second vehicle involved in a crash during the pursuit were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Residents say several police officers were on scene investigating the incident.

Johnson is also wanted for attempted murder after an incident involving a police officer in 2015.
