Police are responding to a shooting in the Neck area of Charleston that has sent one man to the hospital.
Charleston police confirm they responded to a shooting reported at approximately 11 a.m. in the 2,200 block of Birdie Garrett Street in the Rosemont neighborhood.
One male victim was taken to MUSC with a gunshot wound to the arm, according to Charleston Police spokesman Charles Francis.
Police have a street blocked off with crime scene tape and photographers are on the scene taking photos.
Police say they are searching for a suspect.
There is no word on the condition of the shooting victim.
Charleston city councilman Robert Mitchell is the representative for the district the neighborhood falls in.
He says it's a quiet community that sometimes has it's issues with different problems, but they're working on fixing it.
"It's something hard to do," Mitchell said. "People have to step forward to let law enforcement know what's happening. That's the only way we're going to know. Sometime they catch the people once in a while in the area, but it takes a community."
Mitchell adds he wanted to be there to show the community there is someone out there looking out for the people in his district.
