NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Three Fort Dorchester High School students were struck in an auto-pedestrian accident on Dorchester Road on Thursday.
FDHS officials announced on Friday that one of the students is in critical condition, one had surgery and another is recovering.
Authorities say the students were struck by an SUV in the 9600 block of Dorchester Rd. which is in the area of Wescott Boulevard.
"Thoughts and prayers for three of our students hit by a car this evening. More info to come as we can get it," FDHS officials said Friday.
South Carolina Highway Patrol officials said two of the victims are minors, while the third is 18-years-old.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, an SUV headed west was attempting to avoid stopped traffic and swerved right hitting the three on the side of the road.
The driver of the vehicle, Melissa Morrow, will be charged with reckless driving.
The accident had shut down all westbound lanes, and eastbound traffic was also affected as crews worked the scene.
