CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston County Coroner's Office says a body that was recovered near Botany Bay is of a missing kayaker.
Authorities identified the body on Monday as 20-year-old Dean Britt of Charleston.
Britt's body was recovered Sunday night.
His death has been ruled as an accidental drowning.
Deputies responded near Botany Bay after someone called 911 about a body that had been spotted in the water, dispatchers said.
The sheriff's office dive team remained on the scene until about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, according to Maj. Eric Watson.
The recovered body was then turned over to the coroner's office.
Coast Guard search efforts covered more than 2,800 square miles in cooperation with more than 15 state and local agencies.
The kayakers originally went missing in the area between Folly Island and Morris Island Lighthouse South Carolina after they left Folly Beach with plans to kayak to Morris Island Lighthouse.
Both had been expected back before sunset.
A friend of the kayakers notified watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Charleston command center they had not returned.
