CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Rep. Chip Limehouse sent a letter to the Department of Transportation with a suggestion to add toll booths to raise the money necessary to fund the extensions of I-526.
This was just one of many options Charleston County Council decided to follow earlier this month.
According to the letter, the toll road would be on a portion of the "new" part of 526.
So that would be the road extending from West Ashley to Johns and James islands.
The State Infrastructure Bank has set aside $420 million for the project, but that money could be taken away if the county can't come up with the rest of the $350 million to complete I-526.
