ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Investigators with the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office say they are closing their investigation into the death of a woman found on I-26 last week.
OCSO officials announced on Tuesday that the investigation into a body near mile marker 153 will go to the Highway Patrol and the Orangeburg County Coroner's Office.
"The OCSO was called to the location near the Four Holes Road interchange over the interstate early on April 9," OCSO officials said."A motorist reporting seeing a suspicious object off the side of the roadway that turned out to be a deceased female."
Investigators believe the woman to be a female reported missing from within Orangeburg's city limits.
"Acquaintances told investigators the victim may have suffered from undisclosed medical conditions at the time she was reported missing," OCSO officials said.
According to authorities, the victim was last seen by residents who live near the interstate where the woman's body was located.
"The victim had been residing with those residents," OCSO officials said."The name of the victim is being held until notification of relatives by the Orangeburg County Coroner's Office."
